Description.
The Nuraghic architecture shows megalithic caves with quite peculiar shapes, from the dolmen to the giants’ cave. The connection between the Nuraghic villages and the giants’ caves is clear, with the exception of some domus de janas.
At the moment the known giants’ caves are 321:
• 91 in the area of Cagliari
• 187 in the area of Nuoro
• 43 in the area of Sassari

The Giants’ cave are megalithic and collective burials. Among the most important there’s the one located in Garonna-Paulilatino, close to the Nuraghic settlement. It’s the longest one, with its 23, 77 m. The burial shows the typical shape with a rectangular apse in the back and a circular exedra, the corridor’s entrance with enough room for almost two hundreds corpses. It’s a sort of huge village’s burial . Basaltic memorial stones, symbols of the god protector of dead, were posed in front of the hemicycle.
Some excavations discovered jars’ fragments containing the offering to the dead person: the so called dead’s “lunch” or “dinner”.
