Dating and features.
Around the half of the VI century B.C. Carthage turned to Sardinia in its expansion politics regarding the Mediterranean area. After various ups and downs the conquest arrived around the 510 B.C. The Punics exploited the island and spread all around with their settlements. The villages flourished, as evidenced by the Greek ceramics and by the jewellery imported from the southern Italy or locally made.
Also the cultural and religious influences came from the Greek area, such as the cult of Demetra, goddess of the harvest. The crockery production is rich, but it has been also found amulets and bijouterie, always made of a glass paste. The sculpture mainly produced tophets representing religious symbols and gods figures.

The “antagonist” nature of the Nuraghic culture.
The “antagonist” nature of the Nuraghic culture appeared in its bitter and rough essence during the war against Carthaginians and then against the Romans. That nature allowed the culture to keep safe the traditions also under the different and numerous dominations. The cultural heritage and the peculiarities of the race have been kept first with the guns then through a moral and psychological rebellion.

Against Carthage.
The Sardinian troops strongly fought against the Carthaginian domain and around 545-535 B. C. defeated the Carthaginian general called Malco. But that success didn’t guarantee the independence. Asdrubale first and Amilcare then dominated the island for 25 years, up the 509 B.C.
