Zona: Barbagia di Belvi

The village is situated in the heart of the Gennargentu mountains, quite close to the Bruncu Spina hilltop where, during the winter months, ski-lift facilities are operational.
Desulo is a mixture of the past and the future, with its old, recently restored wooden buildings, and its modern, aluminium-made structures of coloured plaster.
In order to enhance the tourism, the town's oldest quarters have been restored: Issiria in the upper area and Ovolaccio and Asuai in the lower zones, once linked together by small, narrows alleys.
Walking down via Cagliari, the village's main road, you arrive at the ethnographic Montanaru Museum located in Antioco Casula's house, local resident and poet.  Another ethnographic Museum, the Casa Carta, is located in Asuai
Arriving in the Issiria suburb, you'll immediately notice the old parish of St. Anthony Abbot dating back to the fifteenth-century and unfortunately today, in a state of neglect.  In fact, the church has been replaced with a new parish where a crucifix dating back to the sixteenth-century is kept.
One of the town's goals is to promote itself as a tourist destination.  The Sagra della Montagna e dei prodotti del Gennargentu (the festival of mountain products and products of the Gennargentu) was organised.  It takes place at the end of October or in concurrence with All Saints' Day.
The old dwellings open their doors to visitors, offering gastronomic specialities and handicrafts such as salami, ham, bread, cheese, honey, sweets, chestnuts, carpets and wood carvings.  In the evening, cultural events typical of Desulo take place including traditions such as exhibitions dedicated to Sardinian poetry.
Desulo is a mountainous village, characterised by a massive presence of chestnut woods, and offering wonderful scenery in the spring blooming season.
The village also offers other surprises: the Tascusì pass, at 1245 m where you'll find a refuge and the Madonna della Neve (Virgin of the Snow) church, whose feast is celebrated during the first Sunday of August.  Also to be mentioned is the Nuraghe Ura'e Sole.
Tascusi is definitely the ideal starting point for trips and excursions in Gennargentu's south-western territory, finishing off at the massive tops of Punta Lamarmora.
