History, tradition, religion and nature; these are some of the most important components of life in Laconi, an interesting town in central southern Sardinia surrounded by thick ilex and oak vegetation. 
What immediately comes to the visitor's mind is the immense extension over which the Aymerich park extends, approximately 22 hectares in which it's possible to visit both the area where the remains of the neo-classic castle constructed by the Aymerich Marquis are found, as well as that which includes interesting botanical examples. 
The castle is of historic importance and is where evidence of the park's original settlement is easily found.  It also is home to the famous cedar of Lebanon with its exceptional dimensions (it would seem to be five centuries old!). 
On the other hand, the park offers a vast quantity of botanical examples that can be visited thanks to an efficient network of paths among natural and fascinating scenery including natural cavities, streams, small waterfall, springs and small lakes.  Part of an exotic and precious private plant collection that belonged to Marquis Don Ignazio Aymerich, who also looked after the settlement during the first half of the 1800's, is situated in an area overlooking the park.  |interruzione di pagina  The castle, which is completely covered with green vegetation, still conserves the remains of its older structure; a rectangular-shaped building or tower, with epigraphs dating back to 1053, as well as the palace in gothic-Catalan style where the Lords of the Fief of Laconi lived.  The prisons are also partially visible. 
Laconi is also famous as the birthplace of St. Ignatius (1701-1781 in Cagliari), one of the most venerated saints in Sardinia.  Every year on Aug. 30th, religious rituals in St. Ambrose's XVI-Century church are celebrated in his honour (during the 50's he was named a Capuchin Brother after his canonisation). 
The festivity, more intimate and country-like, celebrates St. Anthony Abbot (Jan. 16th-17th) with a large bonfire close to the small church dedicated to the saint along with the tasting of traditional food products.  There is also the St. Daniel celebration (second Sunday of May) in the antique, rural sanctuary.  Of noteworthy importance is the Municipal Museum or the Museum of the Menhir Statues which is located on the lower floor of the town hall and in which approximately forty examples of this anthropomorphic statue of pre-historic Sardinia are conserved .  It consists of seven exposition rooms and is unique in its kind.
