Orroli is a small village with about 3000 inhabitants and borders on the Sarcidano and the Barbagia di Seulo areas to the north and on the territory of Gerrei to the south.  Up until few years ago ,the village was quite unknown.  Only recently has the territory been reassessed for its archaeological and environmental value.
There are plenty of oaks, ilex, chestnut trees and junipers surrounded by cistus, phyllirea, myrtle and asparagus - you might also find a wild orchid.
The fauna is just as various and includes wild boars, hares, foxes and wild cats and also buzzards, peregrine falcons, herons and garganey.  All of these species are preserved as the area around the Mulargia lake zone is protected.
To be mentioned are the Mont'e su Rei pine forest and the "Su Motti" woods, where a Necropolis containing 15 Domus de Janas is located.
However, from an archaeological point of view the most important site attracting numerous visitors, is the massive Nuraghe Arrubiu.  Its unique structure is composed of a central tower and 5 lateral towers linked by a massive wall.  The central tower is 16 m tall; its ground and first floors are still intact and have their own tholos.
The Nuraghe is surrounded by another wall with 7 towers that are only partially visible.  There also are the remains of a third wall with 5 towers.
The Nuraghe was built between the XIII and the XI Centuries B.C and occupies about 3.000 square meters.  The Romans used the structure, creating two systems, for the production of wine.
Orroli's ancient traditions inspired a unique initiative: the construction of a tourist resort composed of 20 shepherds' huts transformed into very comfortable, fully-serviced bedrooms.  The biggest hut is in fact a restaurant that seats 300 people.  The area is spectacular for passionate hikers where you'll also find riding grounds.
For ardent religious believers, the Santa Caterina celebration that takes place during the first Sunday of June must not be overlooked.
Handicrafts are also bountiful including hand-woven carpets, embroidery, leather tanning, wrought iron working and knife engraving.
