Dolianova's importance resides in its territory's richness, quite fruitful and marked by the traditional habits that, throughout time, have contributed to identifying it as the most important town in Parteolla.
Deeply tied to an economy based on agriculture and animal breeding, it has distinguished itself in the last few years for its wine production, product of its renowned wine co-operative. The co-operative was formed in 1949, based on the activity of expert wineries that brought to it the cultivation of a large part of Parteolla's wide-spread hills, and today counts approximately 660 producers amongst its members.
Its grape processing has achieved a high level and prestigious quality, both in red and white wines as well as dessert wines, all exported to the most important international markets.
Another important activity is olive growing, wide spread even in surrounding communities and in particular in Donori and Serdiana, where this tradition has antique roots. The co-operative uses three oil-presses for its olives although an excellent product can also be bought privately. |interruzione di pagina In addition, Dolianova's territory offers interesting, historic opportunities. There is a remarkable presence of about 20 nuraghic settlements. Among them is the Tomba dei Giganti Sa domu 'e s'Orcu; a megalithic burial positioned over 700 m high and dominating the tableland below.
Many findings have also been found in the town of "Mitza Salamu" including approximately forty ritual masks of human appearance, attributed to the Imperial Period. There are remains from the Judicial Period in the villages Sicci S. Biagio and S. Pantaleo's churches, from which Dolianova rises and was established in 1905. The town has kept its two patron saints for whom big festivals are celebrated in their respective parishes.
The church of St. Pantaleo is unique. Built before 1170, it has a nave and two aisles. Inside, it conserves a baptismal font dating back to the V Century, the only example in Sardinia. The most important festivity is celebrated in its honour two weeks after Easter while the 3rd of February, St. Biagio is celebrated with a big bonfire in front of the homonymous church.
Outside town are the two small churches of St. Gregory and St. Michael whose celebrations are the 31st of May and the first Sunday in September, respectively.
