It's a pretty village where the predominant shape is parallelepiped; that's the granite with which all of the buildings in the village are made. Alа dei Sardi is granite territory, that bright and crystalline type of granite. Its extraction and workmanship are the main source of revenue for the area together with shepherding and the cork industry.
Buddusт is a large centre with tidy stone buildings and stone-covered roads. It's quite unknown to most, but its many traditions include hospitality and a warm welcoming. In addition to granite and cork, Buddusт is known for its traditionally handmade chests, once the only furniture of true great value present in old Sardinian houses. Typically made of chestnut wood, Sardinian chests are quite simple with fine engraving on both sides that represents traditional themes such as flowers and birds. Sometimes the chest's legs are shaped in the form of animals' heads or lion's feet. The wood is usually natural and sometimes dyed with lamb's blood. Nowadays, these chests are quite trendy and can be bought directly from the Buddusт craftsmen.
Leaving Buddusт and on your left, you will come across the beautiful Nuraghe di Loelle and then reach Lodи, another characteristic village that thrives mainly on shepherding. This small village, situated between Punta Sa Donna and Mount Albo, encompasses all of the typical features of a small mountain village located between the Nuorese and the Gallura areas including its stone buildings and subsistence economy. Its almost self-governing people are very generous and hospitable and always welcome visitors. The soil produces numerous products that are cooked according to the most traditional recipes. A good example is the "porchetto carrasau" (piglet roasted in a hole with red-hot stones and aromatic herbs).
