Narbolia is a little centre with just 1700 inhabitants, 18 km. from Oristano.  Looking out over the sea, it's known for its local cork, citrus fruits, grapes and olives.
From a natural point of view, Is Arenas' pine forest, ending with a beautiful beach, must be mentioned.  It's a real natural oasis full of eucalyptuses, myrtle bushes and mimosa trees that in the spring provide the best habitat for jays, weasels and foxes.
The big dunes and the golden sand render the area's appearance very similar to an African desert.  As a matter of fact, Is Arenas is considered to be one of the last desert areas in Europe.  Growing right out of the sand, you find acacias, pine trees, junipers and palms, especially near the Is Benas pool.  On the northern side of the beach is the stony arch of S'Archittu, hollowed out by the sea.
In order to reach Is Arenas from Cagliari, you should take the "Carlo Felice" roadway up to San Vero Milis.  Past the remains of the Nuraghe S'urachi, take motorway n. 292 in the direction ofSanta Caterina di Pittinurri.

Narbolia has two beautiful and quite well-kept Nuraghe.  The Nuraghe of Mesumaiore has a quadrilateral shape constituted by four towers on each side and another, bigger one in the centre.
The Nuraghe was built in order to keep the river Riu Maistu Impera under control.
The Nuraghe Tradori was built in dark basalt, its entrance quite low, and the internal space has a circular shape with a dome-shaped vault.  The construction is surrounded by a stony wall.

Narbolia, as other Sardinian villages, presents a peculiar characteristic: the murales.  The most famous reproduce the seasonal cycle of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter of 1956.
