Aritzo is the perfect mountain destination, both in winter and in summer.  This tourism-oriented town is also enriched with shepherding and a handicraft production.
In the past, the village was well known for its "snow commerce"; snow was collected in special containers (called neviere) and used during the summer for the production of a lemon sorbet called "Sa Carapinna".
Aritzo is also very well-known for its chestnuts and every year a large, charming festival is celebrated in their honour.
This village is the starting point for all excursions in the Gennargentu regions.
The village's main road is Corso Umberto I, where you'll admire the Church of St. Michael Archangel which dates back to the sixteenth-century.  You'll also find the ex Spanish prisons established in 1600 called "Sa Bovida", and the Arangino Castle built in 1917 in neo-Gothic style by the order of Cav. Vincenzo Arangino.
The village is distinct for its old buildings made of shale and adorned with typical wooden balconies.
Just outside the village, the road rises between hazel-tree woods and on the right side you can get a glimpse of the silhouette of the top of Texile.  The scenery becomes more and more entwined right up to the Ortuabis, the road-mender's house which is surrounded by woods and narrow valleys.
