Capo Pecora

Capo Pecora: a wild, rocky, rough and desolate landscape overlooking the Arbus sea along the western coast of Sardinia.  A very rough sea, but always very charming and very different from the wistfulness of the eastern coast, where the landscapes include many human symbols and a more receptive and friendly personality.  Capo Pecora's sea has an inexhaustible power, always fighting against the wind and the mainland.

Location...
There's just one way to reach the Buggerru coast, of which Capo Pecora is part.  The road starts from Iglesias and continues on to Fluminimaggiore, passing through a luxurious countryside characterised by enchanting views.  The route is winding and the roadway is narrow, but you'll find a pleasant surprise after each turn like the wonderful Antas valley, where the remains of Sid-Sardus Pater temple are.  It was built by the Romans over Punic ruins during the III Century A.D. and under the Emperor Caracalla.  Above the ruins of the temple in honour of the Punic god Sid, dating back eight hundred years prior, is the inscription on the front of the temple.

What's worth seeing...
There are mainly natural wonders to see.  The coastline, from Fontanamare to Capo Pecora, is a sequence of inlets, beautiful beaches, unusually shaped rocks, cliffs and reefs.  You can't miss out on a boat excursion amidst it all.  Also, don't also miss out on a visit to the mining centres.  Starting in Buggerru, you'll find the old equipment once used by the miners and the typical wooden buildings.  You'll also find the workshops where all the tools were made.  There are also very charming tunnels, some of them accessing the sea.  The mining centre of Ingurtosu, today abandoned, is also impressive.  For those keen on archaeology, the village of Grugua, just past Buggerru, boasts the ruins of a Roman cemetery.

The beaches...
The main road to Buggerru passes close to the wonderful beach of Portixeddu, with its dunes covered by the massive reforestation of umbrella-shaped pines.  Also to be mentioned are the rocks of Porto Tramatzu, reachable through a narrow alley.  In the Arbus territory are the wonderful beaches of S'Acquadroxiu-Pischeredda, near the beautiful dunes of Scivu, and the area of Ingurtosu and Piscinas.
