The  was designed by the famous architect Giuseppe Viana and built between 1766 and 1785. The Carmine complex - one of the most significant and important baroque-Piemontese realizations of architecture in Sardinia � includes the homonymous convent and occupies an entire block within the historic city-centre.
The interior part of the church is rococo-style, its structure is oval and is composed of two chapels per side; decorated with magnificent stuccoes and gold, it culminates in an apsidal presbytery with an ample cupola that houses a splendid altar in polychromatic marble. Today, this former Carmelite convent with its graceful fa軋de animated by linear cornices is used for cultural purposes and hosts temporary exhibitions (on occasion of the famous Carnival in Oristano).
