The Madonna of Bonaria used to be a very worshiped patron saint for sailors. The Sanctuary has became a destination for numerous pilgrimages. The statue is carried in procession on a ship in July when the Madonna of Bonaria holy day is celebrated.
Close to the Sanctuary, there is a very interesting museum where sacred objects are collected together with plenty of ex-vows offered to Madonna by the worshipers.
The Monumental Cemetery (il Cimitero Monumentale) at the foot of a hill is also worth a visit. It is situated very near the remains of a late Roman, early Christian Necropolis and represents a sort of open-air museum containing Sardinian sculptures from the XVIII Century.
