At the top of the Buon Cammino hill, overlooking the homonym walk that represents one of the most panoramic and exciting points of the city of Cagliari and from where you'll find a wonderful view on the gulf, is the church dedicated to SS. Lorenzo and Pancrazio.
Its peculiar position, originally isolated atop a little hill, makes you think of a country church.  In fact, that probably was its old function, since the building is outside the old, medieval town walls.  In this little church, travellers were supposed to stop, before setting out on their journey, and pray for the Virgin's protection, to whom the church is dedicated.
This little church is peculiar not only because it is one of the oldest in town, but also because of the simplicity of its structure.  In fact, it's one of the fewest examples of double-aisled churches that still existent in Europe.
It's a Romanesque church and dates back to the XII Century.  Its interior contains two aisles divided by arches with barrel vault, based on fixed, massive columns.  It also presents two high altars, one dedicated to St. Lawrence and the other to the Buon Cammino Virgin.
In the XVIII Century, the church was altered; a new façade was built and a porch with lateral chapels, characterised by a little lantern on the top, was added.
Generally speaking, the church is quite well kept and still conserves its original appearance.  From the square in front of the church, you can admire a wonderful view of the residential quarters surrounding the city of Cagliari.
The church is open on Sundays and public holidays when mass is celebrated.
