Alghero / Lake Baratz / Porto Ferro / Porticciolo / Alghero
Difficulty level: Middle

Distances total Km  65
Tar road 35
Dirt road 30

Excursion time  from 3,5 to 4,5 ore

This one, we are going to introduce is the longest excursion; starts from the centre of the city, up to reach the village of Saint Maria of the Palm, where the homonym wine cellar is found, and from here, always on asphalt, after few Kms the lake of Baratz is reached, only natural lake of Sardinia
Its extension is not very broad (around 12 Kms the perimeter), while the landscape is various and interesting.
The typical Mediterranean flora can be admired with its intense perfume (dwarf palm, strawberry tree, myrtle, broom) the fauna (consisting mainly of volatile, fishes of sweet water and turtle), and the characteristics rocks formed by solidified mud. The road surface is not challenging and is always practicable by everybody, with alternating ups and downs and with compact road surface. Concluded the ring, we transit inside the Pine Forest to reach the Reefs bluff of Porto Ferro and Porticciolo, an area almost always exposed to the winds (not annoying for pedalling). For this motive the vertical cliffs in sandstone, show some deep erosion, while the vegetation, roadstead, and low, replaces the luxuriant one of the lake. In the zone there are present some of the Saracen towers, ancient military outposts, unfortunately not in perfect shape because of the bad weather.
At the return in the city, all on asphalt, the villages of Maristella, Fertilia, the Pine Forests, and the beaches of Alghero are flanked.
