Su Gologone is an extremely beautiful karstic river located in the territory of Oliena. Its waters flow from a deep natural cleft in the calcareous rock and supply the Cedrino dam throughout the entire year. Very pure water low in mineral content flows from this spring (its capacity of 300 litres per second making it the biggest in Sardinia).
Part of its waters flows in the territory of the Supramonte through unknown underground channels and surfaces through a deep cleft in the rock.
There have been many attempts to explore this spring, the most famous of which is that carried out by Frenchman Olivier Isler who descended 108 meters without ever arriving at the bottom.
During periods of heavy rain, it's possible to take part in a spectacular phenomenon: the flooding of the territory surrounding the spring due to the extraordinary force of the water accumulated within it.
