Li Lolghi Giant's Tomb and Necropolis of Li Muri
"LI LOLGHI" GIANT'S TOMB  AND NECROPOLIS OF "LI MURI"

"LI LOLGHI" GIANT'S TOMB

This burial chamber probably dates back to the period included between 1200-1200 a. C.; like the tomb of  Coddu Vecchiu, it was built in two different phases for different uses: during the Nuragic Age the original Dolmen, high a bit less than 4m and probably belonging to the Bonannaro's culture, was linked to a 10m corridor made up by stones stuck in the ground vertically. This new passageway was the new burial chamber where the dead used to be put in through a small entrance at the bottom of the Dolmen.
The wide exedra and the long corridor were added up in the Nuragic Age; today there are just 14 vertical slabs.

NECROPOLIS OF "LI MURI"

The Necropolis of Li Muri is a peculiar archaeological site dating back to 3000 b. C. and made up by numerous New-Neolithic graves: around the Dolmen, where the body was buried, there are five concentric circles of stones stuck in the ground, which used to hold the mass of earth covering the ground.
It is likely that this tombs where destined to the most important people: beside each circle there was a menhir (or “betyl"), a vertical stone with the representation of a god. The “sepulchral circles" can be found only in Gallura and mainly in the area of Arzachena. The Li Muri ones is the most important and best known archaeological site belonging to the so-called Arzachena's “cultural facies".

Getting there:

From Arzachena take the 427 to Calangianus: after 3km turn right on a white road: 1 km before the site take the path on your right to get to the Giant's Grave of Li Lolghi.
