Porto Pino

Porto Pino is a beautiful seaside location on the southern tip of Sardinia in the province of Carbonia which is about 30 km away.  The name  Porto Pino is due to the fact that the area is distinguished by a vast pine forest  and by a stunning  bay with a long  beach  stretching out for over 4 km and characterized by extraordinary sand dunes and a transparent sea.   Porto Pino is surrounded by  a number of  ponds where one can admire the marvellous flamingoes which give that extra poetic touch to the place.
The town is basically a solida spot and has a number of villas and bungalows  which come to life in the summer months.
There are two main beaches called “prima spiaggia” and “seconda spiaggia” as they are separated by a jetty. The “spiaggia seconda” is larger and prettier.  All the beaches are fairly small and have spectacular white sand and a turquoise sea . They are all well equipe with sun umbrellas and bars and there is the possibilità of doing water sports, like for example windsurf or scuba diving.
Nearby are the  very picturesque islands of Sant’Antioco and San Pietro also called Carloforte, here every year the famous “mattanza dei tonni” takes place the first week of  June in which tuna is fished and served  in the many restaurants.  A few km away lie all the dream beaches of the Southern coast  which include  Teulada and Chia. Other significant areas  are the archeological sites where one can visit ancient remains dating back to the Nuragic and Punic-Roman periods.
