The Carignano Music Experience in Sulcis

From 15th July to 2nd September 2012 the region of Sulcis, in the south-western corner of Sardinia, will open its doors to all who want to escape the grind of everyday life, discover the local culture, and experience a world-class musical event.

The region is famous for its wine, Carignano, which, with its intense and full-bodied flavours, mirrors the proud, welcoming people of the area. Against this backdrop of wine cellars inthe towns of Calasetta, Sant’Anna Arresi, San Giovanni Suergiu, Santadi and SantfAntioco, great, internationally famous artists will perform for the ‘Carignano Music Experience’, an event celebrating music of all genres and styles.

The great successes of the previous incarnations of the event has led to it being put forward to the summer holiday season to allow tourists to enjoy the magic of a music festival by the sea, surrounded by unspoilt nature.

Carignano Music ExperienceThe event will get going with the Ballroom Kings Show, a journey through 1950’s America exploring Rock’n roll, Swing and Rhythm & Blues. Then come the melancholy and yearning melodies of the Tango and the Bossanova with Alessandro Haber, and the Meridies quintet who will perform the work of Astor Piazzola, one of today’s best known composers.

Four exceptional artitis – Anna Tifu, Romeo Scaccia, Fabio Furia and Massimo Battarino – will perfom ‘Galà Concerto’, a concert that draws on everything from classical to contemporary music, from snatches of tango to passages from famous operas.

In Santadi the great Luis Bacalov, an Oscar winner for the music to the film ‘Il Postino’, will take to the stage and perform, amongst other things, a number of pieces written for the flute and piano by Ennio Morricone. The festival will come to a close with the Giuseppe Nova and Rino Vernizzi Jazz Quintet who will perform some of Bach’s music, but with a jazz twist.

Great musicians, Carignano wine and the wonderful landscape of Sulcis: an unbeatable combination.
