Sardinia not only beaches: Cagliari and surroundings

DAY 1 - Monday
Arrival at Cagliari airport in the early afternoon and meeting with the guide. You will leave for the city center and take a bus tour to discover the main areas and attractions of the Sardinian capital.
The first day will end when you check in at the hotel and then enjoy a few moments of rest before dinner with an excellent pizza: it is not a typical Sardinian dish but certainly much appreciated by the islanders and therefore highly valued, thanks to continuous updating and the use of excellent raw materials.

DAY 2 - Tuesday
Full day excursion to discover the typical flavors and history of Sardinia. The first stop will be in Dolianova, located in a hilly area full of cultivated fields, a few kilometers from Cagliari. Here you will visit a leading dairy company in the production of Sardinian cheeses, produced only with local sheep and goat's milk: at the end of the visit there will be a workshop with tasting of the best-selling products, as well as a short stop at the farm shop. The day will continue with a guided tour of an award-winning winery in the nearby town of Serdiana. This local company has developed thanks to a long family tradition that, combined with its latest generation, has discovered innovation and the study of quality as tools for the production of wines appreciated on the Italian and foreign market. At the end of the visit, you will taste some of the wines produced with a rich selection of local products.
At the end of this tasting, the tour of Cagliari and its surroundings will continue towards Barumini, in the heart of Sardinia, where you will visit one of the symbols of the millenary Sardinian history: the nuraghe. And it is one of the largest and best preserved in the whole Sardinian territory. Indeed, it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
At the end of this very interesting dive into history, you will return to Cagliari in time for an excellent meat dinner in a restaurant near the hotel.

DAY 3 - Wednesday
Half day guided tour in the center of Cagliari to discover the most important historical and cultural sites in the districts of Castello, Marina and Villanova. You will visit, among others, the national archaeological museum, the Tower of San Pancrazio, the Viceregio palace and the cathedral of Santa Maria. At the end of this group tour of Cagliari, you can freely choose where to have lunch and then enjoy a free afternoon to deepen the visit of the areas of your interest, to go shopping or even take advantage of a few hours of sunshine in the nearby Poetto beach.
At the end of the evening the group will meet to enjoy a dinner with tasting of other typical local products.

DAY 4 - Thursday
This holiday program includes a full day excursion that will make you discover other interesting sites of Sardinian history. The day starts with a visit to the castle of Acquafredda (Siliqua), a fortified medieval structure dating back to the thirteenth century that has experienced various dominations, including the Aragonese. This guided tour can be considered a sort of trekking excursion (even if of low difficulty) so appropriate clothing is recommended. After this fascinating visit with a breathtaking view, you will have a tasty lunch in a farmhouse and, in the early afternoon, a guided tour to the Serbariu mine and the Coal Museum. The Serbariu Gran Mine was, between the 30s and 50s of the last century, one of the major Italian electricity production sites and, following an imposing recovery work, it is now possible to visit a part of the underground tunnel and discover the direct testimonies of who worked there in inhuman conditions.
At the end of this interesting experience, you will return to Cagliari to enjoy a tasty fish-based dinner in a restaurant a few steps from the hotel.

DAY 5 - Friday
Check-out and free time until the transfer to the airport, expected in the late morning.
