After this food and wine experience, you will move to the center of Sanluri to visit its fascinating castle, built between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries and enlarged by the Aragonese in 1436. At the end of this interesting dive into the most recent history of Sardinia, you will return to hotel in Carbonia to enjoy a few hours of rest and then have dinner.
DAY 3 (Saturday or Wednesday)
After breakfast, you will leave for the nearby Serbariu mine: it is a coal mine no longer in operation since 1964 and recovered and restored for museum purposes to become evidence of an activity that, between the 1930s and 1950s, represented one of the most important realities in Italy. By visiting the rooms of the lamp factory, the underground gallery and the winch room, you will discover the extreme conditions in which the Sardinian miners worked. The visit to the mine is enriched with information, images and testimonies displayed in the engaging museum set up just above the well. A tasty lunch in a farmhouse not far from the site will follow and, in the afternoon, you will enjoy a guided visit to the fascinating archaeological park of Monte Sirai, an important Phoenician and Punic settlement built around 750 BC. You will also visit another important complex nuraghe found more recently in the center of the town of Barumini during the renovation of an ancient noble residence of the Sardinian-Aragonese barons, built from the mid-1500s right above the ancient Nuragic building. This fascinating day dedicated to the Nuragic history that is the symbol of our island also includes a visit to the very interesting Giovanni Lilliu center which, dedicated to the archaeologist who brought Su Nuraxi to light in the 1950s, offers many interesting exhibitions.
