The beautiful and renowned central eastern coast of Sardinia takes its name from what was historically the most important town, Orosei. The Gulf of Orosei is truly spectacular and mostly untouched. The beaches, sea and coastline are difficult to beat, comparing them to the very top areas of this kind in the world. It is also a relatively quiet stretch of coastline. Orosei itself is built on the flatlands of the Cedrino river, in the area known as Baronia. It is a pleasant town, with limestone buildings and characteristic narrow streets, maintaining an almost 19th century atmosphere. The church of Sant Antonio is charming, with its close proximity to the Pisan tower and “cumbessias”. These are small, antique one-roomed houses, generally made of stone, where people spent the night on the occasion of honouring the Saint, on 16th January. The church of San Giacomo is also worth visiting, built between the XVII and XVIII centuries, with a baptismal font made of wood, as well as the church of the Madonna del Rimedio. Both churches have specific holy days during the year, celebrated respectively on 25th July and the second Sunday of September. Many visitors and people from the surrounding area come to take part in the processions. The distinguishing feature of this part of Sardinia is, however, its extraordinarily beautiful sea and coastline. From the Marina of Orosei to Berchidda, the beaches are quite remarkable. The most renowned ones are Cala Liberotto, Cala Ginepro and Bidderosa. The beaches are clean and well equipped, and the entire coastline perfectly conserved. There is great attention to protecting the most precious commodity – nature itself, and visitors to this area feel privileged to witness such beauty.
